The Michigan Tech Sailing Team participates in collegiate regattas throughout the mid-west. Any undergraduate student with a knowledge of basic sailing skills may join. Most of the racing takes place in 420s, but we have also raced Flying Scotts, FJs and Lasers in the past. More recently we have been competing in big boat regattas such as the Stormy Trysail Regatta out of the Larchmont Yacht Club in New York. Most of our practicing and racing takes place in the Fall semester, as the ice usually is not out of the Portage until the last couple weeks of school in the Spring.

Joining:
Simply show up at one of our race practice or cruising days to be tested on basic sailing skills.
If you would like to be a ‘crew’, no experience is necessary, we will teach you all you need to know.

Practice:
5:00pm- 7:00pm Mondays and Wednesdays

You will be required to attend at least one practice however, if you plan on going to regattas it is strongly encouraged that you attend more. If this does not work with your schedule contact us and we can try to work something out.

Dues:
Dues for the race team are $40.00 for the year and $25.00 per regatta.

This covers boat use and all collegiate regatta expenses for the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters.

Although there are no regattas or practices in the Summer, the boats can still be used.
